I’ve been playing D&D since the late 1970s. Dungeonmastered from the start. Bought Arduin books from Hargrave himself at his Multiversal Trading Co. Switched to Tunnels & Trolls around 1980 as more fun and inclusive. Taught gaming class in high school. Played in other folks’ games as a college undergrad, mostly other systems like Champions and Call of Cthulhu in the 80s and mostly various White Wolf games including some larping in the early and mid-90s.
Owned a one-woman book and game store, Inkspot, in San Jose 1994-1995, and sold a lot of fun stuff including many, many Magic: The Gathering cards. Foolishly took around a decade off from gaming and then came to my senses thinking “Why did I ever stop? This is the best!” Wrote two non-fiction books, Discardia: More Life, Less Stuff and The Art of the Shim: Low-Alcohol Cocktails to Keep You Level. Play-tested D&D Next and love the resulting 5th edition, far and away my favorite system ever.
In 2018 I began developing this original universe for fantasy gaming to move away from the binary bias and colonialist baggage of games built on wargaming and traditional divisions of good/evil, male/female, civilized/savage, people/monsters. In Kabalor, the core tension is not a battle between binaries, but the shifting power dynamics among Chaos, Order, and Balance.
Now GMing two weekly Kabalor-set campaigns, one with combat which started in April 2019 and one with no combat which started in January 2020. I am deeply excited to be sharing my love of creative play!
